I am going to show you how to build a TSM 6.3 server step by step.
1) Plan your server configurations. Here is my sandbox server’s configurations.
In the production environment, you need higher configuration, e.g. minimum 12 GB RAM (16 GB RAM if using deduplication).
2) Install JRE.
3) In my example, I save all installation files in C:\TSM_Images folder.
Double click C:\TSM_Images\TSM_Server_6.3.1.0\install.exe to install TSM.
Turn on LAN-free if your license covers that.
TSM will give you a warning if the hardware does not meet the minimum requirements.
4) Two local groups are created by the installation.
Add a new user ‘db2user1’ and add it to the two new groups. db2user1 is TSM windows service account.
net user db2user1 * /add
net localgroup administrators db2user1 /add
net localgroup db2admns db2user1 /add
net localgroup db2users db2user1 /add
5) Log off and log back on with db2user1, double click ‘C:\Tivoli\TSM\server\dsmicfgx.exe’ to run the TSM configuration wizard.
Create DB01, DB02, DB03 and DB04 under D:\Tivoli\TSM\, then type the path in the following window.
Create E:\TSM_Active_Log and F:\TSM_Archive_log folders, then choose them in the following window.
I name the TSM server as TSM_Sandbox
Type the admin name and password. The account will be used for managing the TSM through command console.
I got two questions: 1. the partition size of the database directory, what is the size recomended and always need four directories? 2. as the same way, recomended size for the active log
The database size varies in different environment. It is decided by the backup data size, enabling or disabling the deduplication … You don’t have to start with 4 directories, just remember to extend the DB size by adding more directories when there is no enough space. The active log is same, the default size should be 16G. (the range is 2G – 128G)
