TSM 6.3: Install TSM Data Protection for Exchange

Here is my ‘How To’ instruction of installing TSM Data Protection Exchange. TSM can do both legacy and VSS backup against Exchange 2007, but only support VSS backup of Exchange 2010. The Exchange sandbox is 2010, so I only can use VSS backup which mean I have to install the TSM BA client (as it provide the VSS requestor).

1) Login in to TSM_Exchange (the Exchange Mailbox server), and double click ‘SetupFCM.exe’ to install the TSM for mail.

2) Login into TSM_Sandbox (the TSM server) to create Exchange policy domain policy and register the Exchange node.

Register TSM_Exchange node

register node TSM_Exchange <password> domain=Exchange backdelete=yes forcep=yes

Register Exchange proxy and grant it to TSM_Exchange

register node TSM_Exchange_DP <password> domain=Exchange backdelete=yes forcep=yes
grant proxynode target=TSM_Exchange_DP agent=TSM_Exchange

3) Install TSM Backup Archive Client (same as my previous demo see more)

4) Launch ‘DP For Exchange Management Console’ from the Start menu.

Exchange MAPI CDO Support package is one of the prerequisites for Mailbox Restore, so it has to be installed (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=1004). And the Outlook has to be uninstalled if it is there.

Then run the test again

It is important to run a VSS diagnostic, as TDP only support VSS backup of Exchange 2010.
